Dr. Amira Alazmi inspires future fellows

The IBK teams from KACST and MIT traveled across Saudi Arabia in October to recruit new fellows. King Fahd University for Petroleum and Minerals partnered with Dahran Techno Valley to host an information session about the fellowship on October 12, 2023. Our featured former Ibn Khaldun Fellow speaker was Dr. Amira Alazmi. She gave an overview of her fellowship experience and some advice for applicants. She especially recommended the Kaufman Teaching Fellowship as a very useful part of the fellowship experience to bring home to her university.

Dr. Alazmi is the Dean of Scientific Research at the University of Hafr AlBatin and the university’s first female dean. She did her IBK Fellowship research in 2019 in Prof Fik Brushett's lab in MIT's Chemical Engineering Department. Dr. Alazmi's research at MIT focused on electrochemistry cell design and development of electrode material for flow batteries.

Amira Alazmi: I was a first dean and I was the first lady dean at this university. Which is a good step and I think and I believe that MIT opened this door for me to get this prestigious position at my university even before I came back to the Kingdom.
