Dr. Areej Alhhazmi Promoted to Associate Professor at Taibah University

We’re thrilled to celebrate Dr. Areej Alhhazmi’s promotion to Associate Professor of Medical Bacteriology and her appointment as Higher Education Coordinator at Taibah University.  Dr. Alhhazmi completed her tenure as an IBK postdoctoral fellow at MIT in 2021.At MIT, she worked in Prof. Graham Walker’s lab, where her research focused on plant peptides. Her projects there included developing an innovative, regulated DNA system to study the membrane and subcellular actions of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) and conducting an in-depth characterization of an iron-sequestering/heme-binding plant peptide with antimicrobial activity. Since then, Dr. Alhhazmi has been affiliated with Taibah University. We look forward to Dr. Alhhazmi’s future contributions to her field and wish her the best in her new role!

Dr. Alhhazimi's article "A haem-sequestering plant peptide promotes iron uptake in symbiotic bacteria" was published in Nature Microbiology here.
