Dr. Sumayah Al-Solaiman, First Saudi to Present at the Society of Architectural Historians Annual Conference

Dr. Sumayah Al-Solaiman presented her research “Preserving the Architectural Heritage in Al Diriyah” at this year's 2016 Society of Architectural Historians Annual Conference which was held in Pasadena, Los Angeles.  She was the first Sadui Arabian researcher to present at this prestigiuos conference.  

"Dr. Sumayah Al-Solaiman tackled in her scientific research the progress of preserving heritage through studying the policies and procedures that were handled throughout the years by surveying the changes that have occurred in Al Diriyah. As well as that, she pointed out that Al Diriyah was the capital of the First Saudi Kingdom this is why it is a national historical icon and she elaborately discussed other important landmarks."

Dr. Al-Solaiman is the Vice-Dean of Quality, Development and Academic Accreditation in the College of Design at the University of Dammam and is a member of the Eastern Province Municipal Committee (one of the first two women members to serve on this committee).  She was a fellow at MIT from 2013-2014 with Prof. James Wescoat and Prof. Nasser Rabbat reseraching the Architectural precedents and the exploitation of terminology in contemporary architectural design of Saudi Arabia.
