Dr. Thamraa AlShahrani Wins Gold Medal at iENA Nuremberg

Dr. Thamraa AlShahrani, an expert in solar energy and Associate Professor in the Physics Department at Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was recently awarded the prestigious gold medal at the iENA International Invention Fair in Nuremberg, Germany. The iENA in Nuremberg, held this year from October 26-28, 2024, is one of the most esteemed global platforms for inventors, entrepreneurs, and innovative thinkers, drawing inventors from around the world to showcase groundbreaking ideas.

Dr. AlShahrani’s work at MIT focused on advancing the efficiency and stability of solar cells, a field in which she has demonstrated her extensive expertise. Her work is particularly valuable for hot, arid climates like those in Saudi Arabia, where sustainable energy solutions are crucial. Dr. AlShahrani’s research on Perovskite-Silicon Tandem Solar Cells, conducted during her postdoctoral research at MIT in 2017-2018, provided new insights into the performance of solar technologies in extreme conditions. Her findings, presented at the Materials Research Society (MRS) Spring Meeting in 2018, have contributed significantly to the field.

At PNU, Dr. AlShahrani has held multiple leadership roles, including Director of the Advisory Support Project for research and international visibility and Vice Dean of Graduate Studies for academic programs and development until March 2024. Her commitment to scientific advancement and academic development has bolstered her university’s reputation on the global stage.
